Had a memorable customer yesterday, imposing in a sort of way, so we had a short exchange of words. I have a few days left at work and was feeling a bit fearless, so I figured why should I give this guy an inch when he’s demanding a mile for a foot?
Well, it turns out he has cancer with less than a year to live, and he’s traveling west for an operation to possibly prolong his life for an additional three months. He called back to apologize for his demeanor, it turns out the medication he’s taking is taking it’s toll.
Imagine how small and insignificant I felt then… I was immediately jumping through hoops to help the guy out. We eventually got him the travel arrangements he asked for, and he couldn’t say thanks enough.
I thought my retirement was going to be hard, with all the preparations I had to go through and the paperwork drills I had to finish. But imagine retiring completely from life - leaving your loved ones behind; leaving your legacy behind. Just when you think you got things figured out, God sends someone your way to keep things in perspective – to keep your mind open - because sometimes you just never know what life is all about until you only have a short time to live. And maybe that’s just how we’re meant to live…
“And I loved deeper, and I spoke sweeter. And I gave forgiveness I’ve been denying. And he said someday I hope you get the chance, to live life like you’re dying” - Tim Mcgraw
